More than 1,300m² of Interface carpet tiles have been installed at Sunderland University’s City Campus; three of the most popular Heuga ranges, all of which have excellent sustainability credentials, have been used to creative effect in the contemporary educational interior.
The BRE ‘A’ rated tiles have been used in several areas, including the University’s Murray Library, which has undergone a major refurbishment as part of a £75 million upgrade that will change the face of the former Chester Road Campus.
Architect Faulkner Brown, who recently specified Interface carpet tiles for their own new offices, chose the sustainable carpet tiles as part of its brief on account of their superior environmental performance. According to design director Steve Dickson the architect frequently specifies Interface “especially when environmental credentials are central to the project,”.
All Interface carpet tile ranges are assessed by BRE Global Ltd and have been certified with an ‘A’ Rating in the BRE Green Guide to Specification; a sustainability scorecard, rooted in the lifecycle analysis, is used to score products to help specifiers identify the most sustainable solutions. Over 1,000m2 of Heuga 726 in a versatile grey shade, were installed in the main areas, including all the stairways. Made from 100% solution-dyed nylon, Heuga 726 is a tufted plain level loop tile with a Graphlex® backing and is available in 30 colours.
Hard-wearing, attractive and competitively priced, it meets heavy contract rating requirements, making it suitable for most commercial installations. For the geometric design in the main area, 145m² of Heuga 568 in Coal and 165m² of Heuga 568 in Silver were used to create the welcoming learning environment the University was looking for. A tufted plain textured loop tile backed with Graphlex®, Heuga 568 is available in a colourful spectrum of 16 ultra-modern colours using a mixture of matt and shiny nylon yarns.
Some 60m² of Heuga 530 in Sedona, a bright red-orange, were used to striking effect in a circular zone in the library’s help-desk and information area. Heuga 530 is a tufted plain textured loop pile carpet tile. Its exceptionally hard-wearing performance is provided by the Antron Excel nylon pile fibre and Graphlex® backing. With 60 colourways, Heuga 530 offers a wide choice that includes some bright accents for detail.
