In 2012, the Mr L.E. Visserhuis moved into a new building in The Hague.

This Jewish residential care centre consists of 36 apartments for elderly people living independently, and a nursing home with 5 groups of 6 residents each. The centre was partly influenced in its search for the right floor covering by easy maintenance. “And it makes a contribution to our care which aims to provide a pleasant experience: we have invested in a warm welcome and a homelike atmosphere.”

Ger Hartog, head of facilities services of the Mr L.E.Visserhuis, stressed from the start the importance of a floor which is easy to maintain. “We had the luxury of being able to try out various materials at our old location. A plastic floor looked ghastly after just 3 months. With wood, wear tracks and damp patches quickly showed up, as well as dust. But the carpet tiles still looked pretty good. When it gets stained, a vacuum cleaner can tackle it, or a tile can be replaced. There is low rolling friction. It is not just the residents with rollators who benefit from the low rolling friction, it is also an excellent choice for our staff in terms of health and safety requirements and ergonomics.”

“Not just the residents, but also family members need to feel good when they leave here.”

Ger Hartog knows his residents well. “They are people who have gone through a lot, they are vulnerable. We wanted to give them back the feeling of how they used to live, translated to their new environment. We did not go for what we thought looked good, but what looked good according to the residents. We are talking about the total surface area. Any cold, chilly feeling is gone. Residents have things how they like it and they enjoy that. Some residents who selected the floor coverings for their own private areas, also selected carpet tiles. Visiting family members notice and see this and it makes them feel good when they leave.”

“Interface and the Mr L.E.Visserhuis have started a relationship which will last for years.”

The choice for Interface came about thanks to good relations with the account manager. “He knows his job and he knows people. Within our purchasing process, he was able to persuade us with his sound arguments and advice. He knows his business and comes by whenever we need something. We have started a relationship which will go on for years.”
